Wider Church Structures
St Michael’s is part of the Diocese of Chelmsford in the Church of England. Each diocese is split into Episcopal Areas (which means an area overseen by a bishop), which are in turn split into Archdeaconries and then Deaneries. St Michael’s is in the Chelmsford Archdeaconry and the Chelmsford Deanery.
St Michael’s is part of a group of four churches within the Chelmsford Deanery called Southwest Chelmsford Churches (SWCC). These churches are:
- St Mary’s, Widford
- Church of the Holy Spirit, Widford
- St Luke, Moulsham
- St Michael & All Angels', Galleywood
The churches work together to host various services and special events. There are four joint afternoon services each year, usually in those months when there are five Sundays. The location and theme of the services varies, but they always start at 4.30pm (with tea and cake served from 4pm). We also hold joint services on special days in the Church calendar like Ascension and Ash Wednesday. Special events include the recent day of prayer led by Bishop Adam, the Bishop of Bradwell.
The Lynchpins group forms the link between the four churches. Membership of the group consists of the clergy serving in the group (see below), and elected Lay Members. At present, Dai Jones and Richard Hyland serve as Lay Members for St Michael’s.
