Galleywood Make Lunch
Holiday hunger is huge with over 1.5 million children receiving free school meals and millions more children living in poverty.
Feeding the local community has been a big part of St Michael’s church for a number of years. Supporting families in need ensures we are showing them God’s grace and living out Jesus’s commandment of loving our neighbours. Make lunch ensures any family, who for whatever reason, can access a hot meal during the school holidays and enjoy some fun craft activities with their children.
Galleywood Make lunch runs over the school holidays providing practical support for local families, families are referred to the church via other agencies.
Galleywood Parish council have awarded grants each year since Galleywood Make Lunch started in 2016.
Volunteers from St Michael's Church help with this project by cooking a meal and providing activities for the children. As well as running successful sessions, where numbers have more than doubled in the last year, we have also provided food parcels and hampers with activities and resources for the amazing families we cater for. During 2024 support will continue with lunches, fun children's activities and further parcels as and when needed.
TLG, transforming lives for good, www.tlg.org.uk give ongoing training, access to funding and a link to a regional co-ordinator.
St Michael’s Junior School and Galleywood Infant School are essential to the success of this project. They provide free use of their school hall and kitchen.
St Michael and All Angels Church has prayer at the centre of everything it does. The prayer chain prays regularly for this community outreach before each school holiday.
